Rage & Retribution Bridging the Chasm Thirty-Six Stars 42 Days to Reading Fluency Vocabulary Power with Connotative Precision Flashes of Insight

Rage & Retribution
Rage & Retribution This novella tells the story of the Cunningham Clan and their conflicts with The Hill People. It’s a story of kidnapping and rescue. It tells how unbridled passions oftentimes lead to as much evil as good. It’s a story of innocence and guilt - of civilized man and his uncivilized tendencies. It’s equipped with twists and turns, unlikely heroes, and sadistic villains. It was written with multiple audiences in mind: the lovers of drama; the teachers bent on opening more broadly the literary world to their students; and for those who just like good stories.

This story begins where the conflicts end in story 5 -- Vengeance and the Bond -- in Flashes of Insight (2007). If you appreciated those stories, you’ll love this book! If you didn’t have an opportunity to read them yet, Rage & Retribution comes with a short prologue that sets the stage with a brief history.

Bridging the Chasm
Bridging the Chasm This text contains a program and a methodology of teaching and study. It includes a teachers' edition and a students' workbook edition. It's a compilation of 24 ready-to-teach units, including tests and answer keys. Each unit is a two-week study, with complementary vocabulary, writing, and reading activities drawn from and explained in the appendices (primarily A, B, & D).

All materials are classroom proven. They've made major positive impacts on struggling readers, writers, and vocabulary-challenged students.

This text was written with several problematic situations in mind:

(1) Having multi-leveled students in a single classroom. This program was designed to accommodate all students on all levels at the same time. Thus, with this program, multi-leveled classrooms are no longer situations to be dreaded.

(2) Not having enough time to teach all essential basics in individual lesson formats. In this program, all of the lessons and activities are designed to teach several necessary and basic lessons at once. Reading, writing, vocabulary, and thinking are all taught in unison.

(3) Students entering substantially below grade level. Students, through this unique system of study, can and do grow several grade levels in a single year of study. Thus, this program aids tremendously in Bridging the Chasm.

42 Days to Reading Fluency
42 Days to Reading Fluency This text was written to address the growing literacy crisis that exists in our country. Illiteracy is above 50% among our school-age teens, minority and socio-economically disadvantaged teens being at the forefront. The purpose of this curriculum component is to address what is evidently the core cause of the problem the absence of a fluency base upon which to build actual reading fluency skills. Though this text was written for classroom use, it is an excellent tool that parents of struggling readers can easily use in the privacy of their own homes. For an exegesis of the rationale, please note the Foreword and Guiding Pedagogical Philosophy in the text itself.

Vocabulary Power with Connotative Precision
Vocabulary Power with Connotative Precision This text is organized to make word acquisition easier. It accomplishes this by congregating the terms in synonymous groupings. In these groupings, the shades of difference become starkly manifest; thus, understanding which term is the best term for what you want to say (imply) or understand becomes simplistic and interesting task. And, studying the terms in such groupings allows their subtleties to hail themselves; for, each subtlety is actually stated and demonstrated in a pointed, contextualized sentence.

The denotations and statements contained in this reference were determined using three criteria as primary indicators: (1) most frequent current use, (2) the presence of root words, (3) the etymology or historical derivation of each term.

Before and after your explorations through the synonymous groupings, a pretest and a post-test are provided to demonstrate the value of your study. Also, after each ten pages of study, there is a cloze exercise as well as a puzzlement exercise available in the Review Exercise sections. In the Answer Key section (TE), answer keys are also provided to verify the accuracy of your choices.

Finally, one of the most productive features of this reference is the Greek and Latin root word study guide in Appendix A. It exposes and clarifies the meanings of a vast array of additional terms by presenting the studier with well over 100 specific root words and elements to peruse and manipulate. No vocabulary reference guide will ever contain every possible word. Though this one contains well over 500 terms in synonymous connotative groups, Appendix A affords the immediate ability to multiply that number countless times.

Flashes of Insight
Flashes of Insight This book of short stories was written with three primary objectives in mind. The first was to create a series of meaningful short stories that would instructively comment on real life and humanity - embracing the positive, predictable aspects as well as those that tend to be challenging and unforeseen. Teens as well as young adults tend to have acute interests in realistic fiction that teaches necessary lessons in and about life. The second was to produce teacher-friendly literature, designed to be taught and discussed in typical classrooms. In such classrooms, it would illustrate specific, teachable, and salient literary devices, integral components of the art and science of writing. Finally, it was written to be read and enjoyed by two distinct target audiences: high school age students / young adults and middle grades students.

This text offers three other unique features. The first is that many of the stories' main characters are maintained throughout the series of stories. Thus, a study of character traits and development need not stop at the end of a given story as it would with traditional short stories, but can be continued through other stories where diverse situations and environments exist. Much like different television episodes, these stories reveal known characters in unique circumstances. This presents the readers with rare opportunities to observe the ebb and flow of the personality development process, as well as the development and continuity of relationships. This lends a unique dynamic to the insights that readers and studiers would gain during their normal processes of literary analysis or classroom learning.

The second unique feature is seen in the adapted versions. All of these stories are fully accessible to younger readers, even though the adaptations do not omit the challenging ideas and concepts as traditional adaptations might. The complex ideas and concepts have been fully maintained; they've simply been expressed in a manner that causes them to be graspable by middle level readers. This makes it possible for both groups of readers to do the same post-reading comprehension / discussion exercises.

Third, each story has numbered sections, allowing easy pre-reading assignments for student practice. Of course, there is a teacher aid section, featuring vocabulary aids as well as comprehension / discussion sections with answer keys accompanying. All review exercises are correlated with specific benchmarks of the Florida Sunshine State Standards, which standards typify national student achievement standards.
